10 Chilling TV Title Sequences That Will Keep You Up At Night

10. Darkroom (1981-1982)

A predecessor to the more successful Tales Of The Darkside, the TV title sequence for Darkroom plays on our deepest darkest fears; what lurks in the dark. It might feel a little dated but it is still very unsettling. An insidious voice, a musical score that could be from any horror/slasher movie and a fast moving camera that acts as the audiences's eyes, this sequence traps us in the house and there is no escape. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nKEviu7T2NI Sunlight pours through the windows but everything is bathed in shadow. Despite the open spaces, the frantic pace makes everything feel claustrophobic. The audience asks why are they racing through the house? Whose house is it? Is it their house? How do they get out of here? Then they are drawn towards the basement, a place of many childhood fears and they are trapped. It's a very clever way of drawing the audience in, making them part of the show. You could dismiss it for its dated charm, but imagine it recreated for modern audiences. It's enough to make anyone a little unsettled.
