10 Chilling TV Title Sequences That Will Keep You Up At Night
9. Nip/Tuck (2003-2010)
But this is not horror we hear you say. Why would you include this TV title sequence in this list? Quite simply, it takes something that isn't scary and makes it disturbing. Think of Doctor Who; it turned statues, shadows and wall art into terrifying spectres. Nip/Tuck does this with mannequins. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JjnPOpRm_aw There is a certain macabre quality to the title sequence that suits the darker side of the show. Mannequins represent the perfect shape for beauty; after all they are used to dress the latest fashions in shop windows. But the mannequins in this sequence are more than just pieces of plastic. They flicker to life; the twitch of a hand, the opening of an eye. The title sequence turns them into something rather chilling, disturbing you without you even realising what is happening. It isn't just horror shows that can use chills to sell a show through their title sequence.
A writer for Whatculture since May 2013, I also write for TheRichest.com and am the TV editor and writer for Thedigitalfix.com . I wrote two plays for the Greater Manchester Horror Fringe in 2013, the first an adaption of Simon Clark's 'Swallowing A Dirty Seed' and my own original sci-fi horror play 'Centurion', which had an 8/10* review from Starburst magazine! I aim to achieve my goal for writing for television (and get my novels published) but in the meantime I'll continue to write about those TV shows I love!
