10 Chilling TV Title Sequences That Will Keep You Up At Night
8. True Blood (2008-2014)
One of the nastiest and most evocative sequences on this list, the titles for True Blood are chilling in a very different way. There are no scary monsters. There aren't even any vampires. In the title sequence it is humanity that sends a shiver down our back. From the poor woman terrified as three men try to baptise her in the lake to the child Klu Klux Klan member grown up as a grinning hick in the deep south. It is these kind of moments that show that humanity is just as bad as the vampires in the show. http://vimeo.com/21597536 Just as vile - and sure to stick in your mind long after the episode has ended - is the sight of the decaying fox sped up, maggots and all. It sits perfectly in the title sequence amid all the sex and violence; death is a key part of True Blood as the other two. It's all uncomfortable to watch, making the True Blood title sequence horrifying but still powerful. It won't be forgotten so easily...
A writer for Whatculture since May 2013, I also write for TheRichest.com and am the TV editor and writer for Thedigitalfix.com . I wrote two plays for the Greater Manchester Horror Fringe in 2013, the first an adaption of Simon Clark's 'Swallowing A Dirty Seed' and my own original sci-fi horror play 'Centurion', which had an 8/10* review from Starburst magazine! I aim to achieve my goal for writing for television (and get my novels published) but in the meantime I'll continue to write about those TV shows I love!
