4. The Mother - How I Met Your Mother

How do you introduce a character who has been built up for eight years and not leave us disappointed? Well, like this.

How I Met Your Mother is a show that started with the promise that eventually we will be introduced to the wife of Ted Mosby. The writers are constantly teasing us throughout the series, giving us some occasional information about her and in one instance showing us her foot for a split second.

This was a pretty difficult situation. The mother is the love of Ted's life, and the whole reason he's telling this story, and so for any of this to work, she has to unequivocally be the best girl Ted has ever dated. What if she came along and had less chemistry with Ted than a girl he broke up with years ago? That would be pretty disastrous for the arc of the show.

Luckily, Cristin Milioti knocked it out of the park and immediately became one of the best things about the series. From the beginning she was clearly perfect for Ted without just being a female version of him. We can see how they're matched together, but she has her own personality, her own flaws, and her own interesting backstory as we find out in How Your Mother Met Me.

And then there was the final episode. Well, it was fun while it lasted.
