10 Comic Book Characters Who Were Better On TV Than In Movies
7. Ghost Rider
While watching Nicolas Cage chew the scenery in just about any movie he's in can be beyond entertaining, there's no getting around the fact that the two Ghost Rider films starring Cage as Johnny Blaze were simply not good.
While 2012's Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance was definitely an improvement over its 2007 predecessor, that's not exactly saying much. Both films were wildly inconsistent in terms of tone and suffered from weak writing, with the whole duology feeling like one big missed opportunity - something Cage himself has freely admitted.
The Ghost Rider movies were so poorly received it seemed unlikely that the eponymous character would ever be able to regain credibility as far as live-action adaptations were concerned, which is why it probably came as a shock to many when Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s take on the Spirit of Vengeance ended up being absolutely fantastic.
Actor Gabriel Luna made his Marvel debut in the series' Season 4 premiere as the Robbie Reyes incarnation of Ghost Rider. Rather than be all over the place like the movies were, this arc stuck to a consistently sinister tone and developed Robbie into an incredibly complex character, exploring his origin, motivations and demons (both literal and metaphorical) in a way that not only generated genuine emotion, but also brilliantly worked in tandem with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s foray into the supernatural.
With that in mind, it's a legitimate shame his planned solo series ended up falling through at Hulu.
