10 Completely Insulting TV Plot Twists
7. Cottonmouth Isn't The Main Villain - Luke Cage
Wow, the first half of Luke Cage's freshman season was phenomenal. Much of this was due to House of Cards veteran and eventual Oscar winner Mahershala Ali, who brought a nuanced and menacing villain to the table in the form of Cornell "Cottonmouth" Stokes, matching the likes of Wilson Fisk and Kilgrave.
Then Stokes was killed off halfway through the season to make way for Willis "Diamondback" Stryker."
Cottonmouth's death in itself was a fantastic plot twist. However, replacing Cottonmouth with Diamondback felt like when the Genie was recast in the Direct-to-DVD Aladdin sequels.
Gone was character development, intrigue, or any level of subtlety. Erik LaRay Harvey devoured the scenery in every single scene he was in, and not in a good Nicolas Cage or Jim Carrey way.
But wait, there's more.
Stryker is actually Cage's long lost illegitimate brother, just in case you felt like the MCU was missing some soap opera cliches. Coupled with a cringe-worthy outfit and some terrible dialogue (he quoted "The Warriors" in what was supposed to be a serious scene), Diamondback was not worthy to sit among the likes of Kingpin and Kilgrave. Even Iron Fist's Harold Meachum outranks this guy.
The laughably terrible final showdown between Stryker and Cage, ending with Cage coming out on top, was less of a case of "Yes! Good has triumphed over evil!" and more "Finally, we don't have to deal with this clown anymore."
