10 Craziest Fan Theories About The Walking Dead
9. Alien Apocalypse
Seven seasons into The Walking Dead and we’re still no closer to finding out the origins of the zombie virus, but this fan theory has a plausible (not really) explanation – aliens! I mean, we’re already fully immersed in a show about reanimated undead folk so why not throw in some extraterrestrial beings for good measure?
The reasoning behind this theory states that as non-human species don’t seem to be susceptible to the virus, it looks like the human race has been targeted specifically. Of course, we haven’t seen any closely related species like apes on TWD yet, but that’s not say elsewhere in the world there might be a terrifying zombie gorilla or two.
But … what better way to secure a planet for your own alien purposes than to create a virus that affects only humans and leaves behind all its better inhabitants like bunnies and dogs and dolphins? Not horses though: they don’t have the best track record of staying alive on TWD.
By doing so, the aliens have removed their main threat (i.e. non-undead humans) and freed up Planet Earth for themselves without having to go in guns blazing à la Independence Day and destroying their new home.
It might sound far-fetched but back when Robert Kirkman was pitching his idea for The Walking Dead comics to publishers, he claimed it was a setup for an alien invasion so as not to put them off publishing yet another zombie story. So, it might not be wise to dismiss an alien story arc just yet.
