10 Craziest Fan Theories About The Walking Dead
5. The Breaking Dead Theory
This particular theory posits that Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead at the very least take place in the same universe or, towards the crazier end of the spectrum, that the latter is a direct consequence of goings on in the world of Walter White. To be fair, it isn’t a completely baseless theory so we’ll give the tinfoil hat wearing fans that.
Now for the evidence. In Season 1, Glenn Rhee delighted in driving around a bright red Dodge Challenger complete with black go-faster stripes to divert hordes of walkers. That car might look familiar to Breaking Bad viewers because it’s the same car (even down to the racing stripes) that Walter White bought for his son, Walt Jr.
It doesn’t stop there, either. In Season 2 we see some of Walter’s trademark Blue Sky meth in a stash of drugs Merle Dixon left behind after being handcuffed to a rooftop and chopping off his own hand (as you do). Later, in Season 4, Daryl describes Merle’s dealer as a “janky little white guy” who said the word “bitch” a lot. Sound like Jesse Pinkman much?
Of course, these could just be Easter eggs and little AMC insider jokes but in the world of fan theories there is no such thing as coincidence and the evidence naturally stack up to something much bigger.
It’s a stretch of the imagination but the theory goes that anyone who smokes enough of Walt’s signature baby blue meth will turn into a zombie (probably not too far from the truth) and that Walt’s arch enemy Gus Fring ingested some shortly before getting half his face blown off and then reanimated as the patient zero of TWD’s zombie outbreak.
So basically it’s all Gus’s fault, the b*stard.
