10 Craziest The Simpsons Fan Theories
Wait, Bart was a Stonecutter?
Throughout the 1990s, The Simpsons was the biggest thing on television. The beloved cartoon may have started off as filler for The Tracey Ullman Show but it wasn't long before Matt Groening's brainchild became a global phenomenon. Since its debut, The Simpsons has created some of the most iconic characters, episodes, and one-liners in all of comedy.
But another thing the series has amassed over the last 30+ years is a plethora of fan-theories. Now, a lot of these postulations are so outlandish, they shouldn't be taken too seriously. Hypotheses like these can be funny and intriguing, but are often too far-fetched to be regarded as factual.
But there are a couple of suppositions that sound not just possible, but highly probable. Because nobody seems to age in Springfield, some viewers believe the town exists outside time and space. Since Homer never runs out of money, it's suggested he's a secret billionaire.
At first, many of these notions sound like deranged conspiracies concocted by people with too much time on their hands. But if you actually break them down, the fan-theories that sound the craziest make the most sense.
10. Ralph And Nelson’s Fathers Aren’t Who They Say They Are
Even though Springfield has its fair share of bullies, no one on the school playground is feared more than Nelson Mandela Muntz. (Yes, that is his real name.)
According to The Simpsons Wiki, Nelson's father is soccer coach and former circus entertainer, Eddie Muntz. But because Nelson has many physical similarities to Barney Gumble, it's been theorised that he is the boy's real father. The pair have the same body shape, hair colour, facial structure, and overbite. Even their clothes match! Because Barney has sired hundreds of children through sperm donations (as we saw in the episode, Selma's Choice), the idea that Nelson could be one of his kids isn't that far-fetched.
Similarly, it’s been suggested by Redditors that Ralph Wiggum is the son of Chief Clancy Wiggum's co-worker, Eddie. Since the two have the same distinct hairstyle, viewers believe Eddie had an affair with Sarah Wiggum years ago, causing her to fall pregnant. To ensure Clancy never found out, she passed her son off as his own. One could argue Eddie chose to work with Clancy so he could keep an eye on his son without drawing suspicion.
