10 Craziest The Simpsons Fan Theories
9. Springfield Exists Outside Time And Space
Of all the fictional towns that exist in TV world, no place is as nebulous as The Simpson's hometown, Springfield. Despite appearing in 700+ episodes, it's never been confirmed which state the town resides in. Fans can't begin to guess where it is since nearly every state in America seems to be only a couple of hours from the Simpsons’ home, whether they travel to Alaska or Texas.
Another paradox that regularly pops up in the show is the inconsistency of the characters' ages. Over the last 30+ years, Homer has claimed to be 36, 38, and 39, while his children never age a day. This floating timeline has also created continuity problems with the characters' history. In flashbacks, we've seen Marge and Homer as teenagers grow up in the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. In 1996, it was confirmed that Abraham Simpson fought in WWII. But if this is true, Abraham would be about 110 in modern episodes!
Because of geographical and chronological irregularities like this, you can understand why the idea that Springfield exists outside space and time is increasing in popularity. Producer, Al Jean, didn't confirm this theory but said it was a neat idea.
