10 Craziest The Simpsons Fan Theories

3. Maude Flanders Never Loved Ned

Even though the Flanders come across as the perfect family, there's no question that Ned's wife, Maude, who's often depicted as a God-loving mother, harbours a dark side. When Marge's pretzel business started outselling hers, Maude sent the Yakuza to the Simpson household to beat up her investors.

There are also many incidents where Maude acts apathetic or callous when Ned is endangered, unstable, missing, or supposedly dead. After Ned was institutionalised in the episode, Hurricane Neddy, it's the Simpsons who help him recover, not Maude. When Ned exits a bomb shelter while a comet is approaching Springfield, Maude barely attempts to convince him to stay. In Marge We Trust, Maude tells Marge she's worried since Ned didn't come home the following night. However, she makes no attempt to look for him and instead, expects the Simpsons to find her husband.

Sadly, there were signs Maude didn't care for Ned... even after she died. Years after she was put to rest, Ned revealed her imprint in their bed faces away from him, suggesting she never looked at her husband while they slept together.
