10 Craziest The Simpsons Fan Theories

4. Maggie Didn't Shoot Mr Burns

The Simpsons
20th century Fox

In 1995, the world held their collective breath to learn who was responsible for shooting Mr. Burns. In the closing moments of the episode, it was revealed that Maggie Simpson accidentally shot Burns after his gun fell from its holster, into her hands.

But some viewers believe this was a cover story to hide the identity of the real shooter - Marge. After Burns ruined the life of her daughter, son, dog, and husband, Marge had just as much reason to kill Springfield's most despised citizen as anyone else. Because Burns is in love with Marge (as we saw in the episode, Marge Gets A Job) it's possible the old crone didn't identify her as the shooter because he wanted to protect her. Instead, he accused Maggie, knowing a baby couldn't be convicted of a crime.

However, this theory has become less popular recently... since Homer has admitted he shot Burns! In the episode, Revenge Is A Dish Best Served Three Times, Homer tries to attack a driver who's overtaken him. In a rage, he tells his family, "And if I get caught, I'll pin it on the baby like the time I shot Mr. Burns." What's more bizarre is how his family carry on chatting like normal, immediately after Homer drops this bombshell. This implies the Simpsons already knew Homer shot his boss, and have been covering for him since.
