The Theory: Felina was the ending that the series had been building up to since the beginning. Walter gets his money to his family (via Gretchen and Elliot), gets revenge for Hank's death, and saves Jesse from slavery and certain death. He then dies surrounded by his mistress (the meth factory). But this seemed a little too neat and clean. The day after the episode aired, the theory that Felina took place in Walt's head began to circulate. It was speculated that Granite State was the final episode and that the events of the finale actually took place in a fantasy as Walt sit dying in the snow covered car in New Hampshire. Was It Possible: No. If Granite State was the last episode, it would have been the last episode. Vince Gilligan has refuted this theory since it arose. He states that Walt would not have known about Jesse's situation without going back to New Mexico. Besides, did Walt deserve to die getting revenge and saving Jesse, or freezing to death in a car in New Hampshire? It was not the style of the series to include fantasy sequences, especially not one that lasted an entire episode. While the episode ties up all of the loose ends a little neater than most people expected, it serves as a fitting and proper end to Walt's journey. Could any of these be true?
