10 Crazy Doctor Who Theories Fans Actually Believed

The summer of 2022 was an, ahem, dry time for Doctor Who fans. The excitement surrounding the return of Tegan and Ace had died down somewhat, and the spate of casting announcements for RTD2 had subsided.

What we did have was anticipation for the Thirteenth Doctor’s final story. We knew who would be appearing in it, and that it would air some time in October, as part of the BBC’s centenary celebrations. But we didn't have a clue what it would be called.

As ever, the internet stepped in to make its own predictions, with one particularly stupid contender emerging: "Dry". That's right! Just... "Dry". Not even "Revenge of the Dry" or "The Doctor and the Dry". Which would've been equally stupid, we might add.

This was not meant as a description of how the Doctor likes their wine, but a reference to the Coldplay song Yellow. Specifically, the lyric “For you I’d bleed myself dry”. According to this theory, Jodie Whittaker was set to sing this song as she regenerated, with the “you” presumably aimed at Yaz.

This amusing nonsense stemmed from the fact that Whittaker is a self-confessed Coldplay fan, and had previously recorded a cover version of Yellow as part of a 2019 Children in Need album. She’d even appeared alongside the band on The Graham Norton Show in 2021, mere days after filming her regeneration scene.

So whatever you thought of “Tag, you’re it”... just be grateful it wasn’t this.
