9. Getting Jilted By Helicopter

Season 1 | Episode 1 Louie goes on a date. Nothing unusual there. The date doesn't go well. Again, nothing unusual as he struggles to find the right balance between gentlemen and weirdo. At one point he tries to open the door for her, only to inadvertently trap her against the wall. Eventually she loses patience with Louie and they argue. As he passionately defends himself, he misreads the signals and goes in for the kiss. She jumps in a helicopter and flies off. Why Could It Only Happen On Louie? Because she jumps in a helicopter! Her disdain for her date is so great that only a helicopter is a suitably swift method of escape. As she flicks the 'V' at him while flying away there is a look of complete resignation on Louie's face. This was the first episode of the show, and it sets up the recurring idea of taking on a familiar topic (dating) and putting it through a kind of surrealist treatment to see what would happen. This particular scene really couldn't have happened anywhere else because the show's creator took the 50k forwarded to him for the whole episode and blew it on the helicopter without FX even knowing. He cobbled the rest together by getting friends to act for free.
