10 Criminally Underappreciated Classic Cartoons

8. The Herculoids

Another cartoon spawned in the vein of "Space Ghost" was "The Herculoids". It's something of a mix between the themes of "Mighty Mightor" and "Space Ghost" as it focuses on an intergalactic barbarian family and their companions, the Herculoids, in a fight against a litany of different alien threats.

While the show was enjoyable for many of the same reasons as its sister series', it was the design of the Herculoids themselves that really made the cartoon pop.

It shouldn't take much to explain why characters like the rock ape, Igoo, and the space dragon, Zok, were some of the plain coolest looking cartoon characters of their time. Throw in a space rhino and two shape-shifters, and you have some seriously impressive looking heroics that went on each episode.

Like many of the shows on this list, "The Herculoids" may not have lasted long with only an 18 episode original run, (the show was briefly revived for close to a dozen more segments in the early 80's with "Space Ghost") but it certainly could capture your imagination with its impressive visuals.
