10 Cult TV Shows Your Friends Bang On About (But You've Not Seen Yet)

1. Freaks And Geeks

For a show that lasted just one season, Freaks and Geeks has one hell of a legacy. Its alumni are among the biggest Hollywood players in comedy today €” executive producer Judd Apatow, creator Paul Feig and cast members Seth Rogen, Jason Segel and James Franco. Linda Cardellini has gone on to have a great career too, though we will overlook those Scooby Doo movies, eh Linda?

A comedy-drama, Freaks and Geeks centres on brother and sister Sam and Lindsay and how their differing friendship circles -€” the Freaks and Geeks of the title €”- cope with the same emotional truths and unfairness of everyday life as they sit on the fringes of high school society.

The show only aired for 18 episodes, but its quality and cast made sure that fans speak of it over 15 years after its cancellation. Even the cast are still hugely passionate about Freaks and Geeks; Seth Rogen ran into Garth Ancier, the NBC executive who cancelled the show, back in 2014 and questioned him as to why the show was cancelled.

Freak and Geeks is genuinely funny, sweet and accurately reflects the awkwardness many of us feel in our teen years. When shows glamorise school life it leaves many of us feeling alienated; Freaks and Geeks' honesty is refreshing and a huge part of the reason its cult following has endured for so long.
