10 Current TV Dramas That Show This Is A Golden Era
4. Homeland
Homeland, based on an Israeli series named Prisoners of War, in English, follows Carrie Mathison, played by Clare Danes as a Central Intelligence Agency officer. But Carrie also has bipolar disorder and when Nicolas Brody, a marine who everyone believes is a hero, returns from being held captive in Iraq, she begins to suspect that he may have been "turned" by the enemy and now poses a threat to the United States of America. But because of her disorder, true or not, Carrie's claims are often taken with a pinch of salt. Over the past few years the success of Homeland has rocketed but why? Some critics have praised its sensitive portrayal of bipolar claiming it is the most realistic portrayal that has been shown on television and that it has even managed to get rid of some of the stigma surrounding mental illness, something which is often not the case as many shows prefer to show the sensationalist view of such disorders. Whatever the reason for its popularity, Homeland remains the perfect mix of psychological thrills, mystery and drama and having recently been renewed for another season, it looks like the show is still on top form.
