10 Darkest Alternate Timelines In Doctor Who

8. Earth Is Destroyed By A Deadly Bacteria (The Pyramid At The End Of The World)

Considering recent global events, this episode now hits a little differently, doesn't it?

In Series 10's The Pyramid At The End Of The World - the middle chapter of the Monk trilogy - the Earth stares down the barrel of a potential timeline in which the entire planet is destroyed by a lethal bacteria.

The mysterious Monks give the Twelfth Doctor a brief glimpse of this possible future, showing him barren forests, wrecked buildings, floods, and fires - and, most distressingly of all, absolutely no signs of life.

Being as stubborn as he is though, the Doctor doesn't just accept this impending devastation. Rather, he sets out to find the source of the bacteria - which turns out to be a lab located in Yorkshire - and burns it to the ground before it can spread.

Because nothing is more effective at preventing a pandemic than a massive explosion, right?

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
