10 Darkest Buffy The Vampire Slayer Moments
7. Billy Tells Buffy He’s Dying (Season 2, Episode 7)
In the seventh episode of Season 2, the Scooby Gang discover the Sunset Club – a venue containing a cult who aspire to be vampires.
Prominent amongst them is Billy Fordham (Ford), one of Buffy’s old school friends. However, he soon betrays the Slayer to Spike and Drusilla after they promise to turn him into a vampire. Whilst trapped inside the Sunset Club, Buffy questions Ford’s motives.
Unlike the other members of the cult, Ford has a legitimate reason for becoming a vampire. He tells Buffy he only has six months to live due to the tumours inside his head. It’s an unexpected twist, but a highly impactful one. The performances of both Sarah Michelle Gellar and Jason Behr carry plenty of emotion, and the music also adds to the atmosphere.
Though it isn’t the most sorrowful moment in Season 2, it’s one of the early indications that Buffy the Vampire Slayer was going to move into some very dark places in the future.
