10 Darkest Rick And Morty Moments

2. Beth Shoots Mr. Poopybutthole

Mr. Jelly Bean
Adult Swim

There have been plenty of incredible, zany characters to appear in Rick and Morty, some of which have only been seen once or twice throughout the series. From Rick’s friends Birdperson and Squanchy, to Jaguar and Fart, the are some memorable people, but none more so than Mr. Poopybutthole.

There were more characters introduced in Total Rickall than in any other episode, though only Mr. Poopybutthole was actually real. The rest were shape shifting parasites embedding fictional characters into the Smith family’s heads. After the house was filled with these parasites, posing as lifelong friends and family, Rick and Morty finally figured out how to tell who was fake and who was real.

The parasites could only fabricate pleasant memories, so it ultimately became a simple game - the Smiths had to shoot dead anyone they had no bad memories of. This worked until Rick, Summer, Morty, Beth, and Jerry were left with Mr. Poopybutthole.

The character that had never appeared in the show before was surely a parasite, right? This is exactly what Beth thought, shooting the character that turned out to be a life long family friend. She didn’t have any bad memories of Mr. Poopybutthole not because he was a parasite, but because he was an incredible friend to the family.
