Any Flash fan worth their salt knows the story of how he died during Crisis On Infinite Earths, giving his life to halt the progress of the Anti-Monitor. But a lot of fans have started to forget how exactly he came back from what seemed like a pretty definitive death.
Well Grant Morrison once again is the one who figured it out in the pages of Final Crisis. While the Flash books had teased at Barry coming back before this, Final Crisis was the one that made it official. Turns out that Barry, after the shenanigans of Crisis On Infinite Earths, has been in a constant state of being chased by the Black Racer - the Grim Reaper of the New Gods - for years in universe and decades to the readers.
The Flash is the only person who could possibly outrun the New Gods' psycho-pump, and even he has some serious difficulty all the way up to him managing to escape during Final Crisis.
Just imagine yourself having to constantly keep running as hard and as fast as you can, lest a specter of death catch up with you, and that going on for years and years with seemingly no hope of getting away. Chilling.
