10 Doctor Who Moments Peter Capaldi Can't Be Darker Than
4. The War Doctor Plans To End The Time War
Speaking of the Time War, there can be no darker point in the Doctor's entire life than when he fought in that great battle between his own people and the Daleks. For a man who prides himself on helping others, to be part of such a devastating conflict must have crushed him. And it did, as we found out in 50th anniversary special The Day of the Doctor. Having finally had enough of the endless suffering, the Doctor (or whatever he called himself in the Time War, maybe it was Dave) decides to end it the only way he can - by detonating the Moment, a weapon of mass destruction that would obliterate Gallifrey. When you think about it, the show's birthday bash is an odd place to feature the main character contemplating double genocide. Of course though, we all know that thanks to his future selves the Doctor does not destroy his fellow Time Lords, but the fact remains that he almost did - at the lowest part of his long, long life. Surely the Doctor can't have a darker, more personally devastating moment ever again?
