10 Doctor Who Characters Who Came Back From The Dead

4. Amy Pond (The Big Bang)

Doctor Who The Big Bang Amy Pond

Series 5's The Pandorica Opens was a really, really bad day for the good guys.

Not only was the Doctor sealed inside the titular Pandorica - a supposedly inescapable prison - but the TARDIS exploded (with River Song caught inside), Amy Pond was fatally shot by an Auton version of her husband, Rory, and the universe actually ended.

On the plus side though, everything was rectified in followup episode The Big Bang.

Here, the Doctor used the Pandorica to restart the universe and set everything back to normal, but earlier in the story, Amy was brought back to life after being locked inside the Pandorica herself - which is such a good prison that it won't even allow its captive to die, and apparently, it can bring them back if they're already dead.

As a result, Pond lived on, along with the countless other individuals whose lives were ended when the universe was blown to pieces.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
