Kerblam! begins when the Doctor and her companions get a mystery package from... well, Kerblam. It's like Amazon, but in spaaaaaaaace.

For most of the episode, the plot goes exactly the way you'd expect a takedown of Amazon to go. The company is portrayed as cold and soulless, putting profit before its workforce. If feels like everything is heading towards a big showdown between the humble workers and the evil corporation, until everything gets completely flipped.

The final act makes it very clear that everything wrong at Kerblam is the fault of one person, Charlie, a worker who is angry that robots are taking all the human jobs. He's weaponised the company's bubble wrap and plans to use it to kill a bunch of customers, to essentially throw the big-wigs under the bus.

Granted, Charlie's hardly a saint, but the speed with which the episode pivots from anti-corporation to anti-worker is shocking. In what universe did the writers think that fans of Doctor Who, a show that has always looked out for the little guy, would feel sympathy for the creepy AI robots stealing people's jobs, and the money-grubbing executives that control them?

Some baffling messaging indeed.
