10 Doctor Who Scenes You Didn't Know Were Unscripted
2. Kissing Kylie
NuWho Doctors have a bit of a thing for kissing people. Captain Jack, Donna, Missy – even the bloody TARDIS! They just can't stop.
In most cases, these kisses are plot-motivated, and, as such, they feature in the script. For example, the “genetic transfer” the Doctor shares with Martha in Smith and Jones.
But this isn’t always the case, and one of the most memorable examples from the Tenth Doctor’s era was apparently unscripted – waitress Astrid Peth locking lips with the Doctor in the 2007 Christmas special Voyage of the Damned.
It’s one of the episode’s defining moments, but as David Tennant recalled to The Mirror, it might not have happened had it not been for his intervention. He said:
“Getting Kylie on the show left me with stars in my eyes. I suggested the kiss, I might add. It wasn't in the script but I wasn't missing that for anything.”
Presumably he's referring to their first, much more impromptu kiss rather than the one at the end of the episode, mainly because that second smooch is an important moment for the story and for the characters, so it would make sense for it to be in the script.
Either way, you can hardly blame Tennant for wanting to add the Pop Princess herself to the Doctor's list of romantic interests.
