10 Doctor Who Villains With Terrifying Abilities

9. Infect Your Mind By Climbing Through Your Eyes (The Weeping Angels)

In their introductory episode, the Tenth Doctor tells us that the best way to deal with a Weeping Angel is to "don't turn your back, don't look away, and don't blink."

Basically, keep your eyes on 'em, and you'll be fine.

However, in Series 5 two-parter The Time Of Angels/Flesh And Stone, we learn that this might not be the best way to combat the Angels after all.

This is because the whole "not blinking" thing is exactly what the Angels want us to do. When we stare at them to stop them getting closer, our eyes are nice and wide, and this allows the Angel to, in essence, climb inside our heads.

From here, they infect the visual centres of the brain, creating a mental image of an Angel that can mess with the victim's perception in radical ways (as seen when Amy Pond believes her hand has turned to stone). Even worse, this image can turn into a real, physical Angel over time, killing the victim from whom it originated.

What's scary about this particular ability is that it renders the Angels virtually unstoppable - unless you have a certain Time Lord to hand, of course. You can't beat them with your eyes closed... and you can't even beat them with your eyes open.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
