10 Doctor Who Voice Talents You've Never Even Noticed
9. Ian McKellen (The Great Intelligence)
That's Sir Ian McKellen, thank you very much! Yes, Gandalf himself gave us the disembodied voice of the Doctor's old foe, the Great Intelligence, back in the 2012 Christmas Special The Snowmen. You may have missed it what with most of the focus being forced upon the Doctor's mysterious and exciting new companion Clara This enemy first appeared in the 1967 serial The Abominable Snowmen in which the Great Intelligence used the robotic Yeti to terrorise the mountains of Tibet. Ian McKellen has given us many great performances in his time including Magneto in X-Men and pretty much every Shakespeare character ever created. The 55 year old actor has become something of a national treasure, particularly in recent years for his portrayal of Gandalf in Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings and Hobbit trilogies, and so it was only right that he landed a place in Doctor Who. And what better title is there to have on your list of jobs than 'The Great Intelligence'? At least this means he can still appear on screen in a different role, too. Or the same role. To be honest, most people would watch him read out the phonebook.
