10 Dragon Ball Characters You Totally Forgot Existed

1. Giru

Giru, (Gill in the Japanese version) is a robot character specific to Dragon Ball GT. A character born of the show's desire to bring back elements from the original series, including goofy sidekicks.

Having eaten the dragon radar and incorporated it's parts into his systems, he effectively becomes it's sentient replacement. He joins Goku, Trunks and Pan for their initial quest for the black star balls and sticks around for the whole rest of the show.

He has a few good character moments but a droid sidekick never quite feels in place on a Dragon Ball series and Giru is not exactly R2-D2. He can be a little obnoxious and his personality is hardly endearing.

However, the chief reason that he's fallen to obscurity is the series that he's associated with. It's no big secret that Dragon Ball GT is the redheaded stepchild of the franchise. In addition to Akira Toriyama's relative lack of involvement, the series is also known for making some... very strange choices.

Never as popular as the first two installments of the franchise, GT only lasted 64 episodes and now occupies a dubious place in canon due to the existence of Dragon Ball Super, which did have Toriyama's direct involvement and contradicts GT in several places.

For these reasons Giru has been rarely seen since the series ended, only occasionally popping up in video games.
