10 Dropped Doctor Who Plot Threads We'll Never Get Answers To

9. The TARDIS Adventures Of Me

Doctor Who Sleep No More Ending
BBC

At the end of Series 9, Clara Oswald jets off (in her very own TARDIS) to see the universe, with her immortal friend Me in tow. But this trip can't last forever.

Why? Because - technically speaking - Clara is dead. She's only alive at this point because the Doctor plucked her from her timeline mere moments before her death. Eventually, she'll have to re-enter said timeline, and accept her demise.

And so, when this happens, Me - a character who can never die, never age, and has a proven track record of causing mischief and mayhem - will be left in sole control of the TARDIS, without Clara's kinder and more positive moral compass to guide her.

As a result, Me could easily wreak untold havoc throughout the universe. It's a potential recipe for disaster, but it's something that the show hasn't yet addressed.

And in the end, it probably never will. With Series 9 showrunner Steven Moffat having left Doctor Who and Maisie Williams ruling out a return as Me, it just isn't realistic to expect the character to appear ever again.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
