4. The Iconians - Star Trek's Gate Builders
The story behind the Iconians is simple, an alien race builds a vast empire and then builds gateways in which to travel to those planets without using ships. They simply step through a door , appearing out of thin air on the planet of their choice. Yet with all of this awesomeness, I still dont want to meet them. Nothing that was left behind, their laboratory or the fact they were considered a myth made me want to see them or have the crew interact with them. I just imagined that their world was nothing but a mess of different colored triangles, ie boring. Star Trek: Voyager reinvigorated the storyline by replacing the Iconians with the Vaadwaur. The Vaadwaur discovered underspace, tunnels through space, giving them quick access to numerous star systems in the Gamma Quadrant. Bottom Line: , The fact that the writers had to make up an entire new species that also appeared for just one episode - rather than just have Gamma Quadrant Iconians means that the Iconians were to dull and forgettable to resurrect in a new series.
