10 Dumbest Decisions Made By Game Of Thrones Characters

1. Jon And His Big Mouth

Jon Snow takes after his adoptive father Ned in many ways, and to call him a politically savvy individual would be ludicrous. There are several moments this could apply for, a notable one being Jon's refusal to lie to Cersei telling her that Jon will stay neutral during her war with Daenerys.

Most notorious however, is Jon's inability to keep his true parentage to himself after Sam reveals to him he is a Targaryen. He immediately tells his lover and aunt Daenerys, causing a rift between the two that was already starting to show thanks to their different receptions from the people of the North.

Then, after Daenerys pleads with him to keep it to himself, Jon tells his sisters, one of which is a political opportunist of her own. The truth then spreads like wildfire, as do the consequences.

Varys fails to overthrow Daenerys and is subsequently executed, Jon becomes distant with his queen as he deals with his crisis of identity that she can't fully relate to or support, and the looming threat to her claim becomes more feasible as he is first in the line of succession.

Along with several other mediating factors, Daenerys chooses to destroy King's Landing as she fulfils her destiny as the Mad King's daughter. Would she have gone this far without the string of consequences from Jon's honesty?

Probably not.

Jon should have learned one more lesson from his father: How to keep a secret.
