10 Dumbest Decisions Made By Game Of Thrones Characters
4. Cersei Empowering The High Sparrow
After Tywin Lannister dies, there was a significant power vacuum within King's Landing. Margaery Tyrell had sunk her claws into the malleable King Tommen and Cersei's influence was fading. She had to do something to assert her control over the realm.
Her choice, was to arm and empower the extremist Faith Militant and their charismatic leader, the High Sparrow.
After Margaery and Loras Tyrel were imprisoned by the Faith, Cersei felt she was beginning to regain her power that she had lost when her father died. Sadly for Cersei, she underestimated the savvy and cunning High Sparrow who quickly imprisoned her also and took control of her son.
The High Sparrow's tenure in King's Landing was made entirely possible due to Cersei's naïve actions that put the zealot and his followers in a position of unquestionable power. This culminated in Cersei's most demeaning and traumatic moment as she was forced to endure her Walk of Atonement naked through the streets of the city.
She later made them all pay, but if she just thought through her actions before helping the Faith Militant, she wouldn't have had to.
