10 Epic Anime Fights Where The Villain Takes Zero Damage

2. Vegeta Vs Frieza - Dragonball Z

Madara Naruto Shippuden

Definitely the most tragic entry on this list is the ill fated fight between Vegeta and his tyrannical former master, Lord Frieza.

Vegeta's upbringing on his home planet wasn't the best, so he didn't feel as bad as one would think he would when Frieza destroyed his home world, even after Vegeta found out it was him. No, what galled Vegeta and drove him to dedicate his life to one day usurping him was how Frieza then turned him into his personal little tin soldier, seemingly just to mock him.

So it hurts all the more to see Vegeta, finally convinced he can bring the monster down during the Namek saga, that he can finally avenge both his people and his pride, and it all come to nothing. Vegeta throws everything at Frieza, while the tyrant casually dodges all of it, and finishes the fight with a total of three blows.

Now, this is Dragonball, where if you aren't Goku, you're basically worthless, but what makes this fight work is how it frames it as a tragedy. Vegeta has wanted nothing more than to kill Frieza, bided his time for several decades, and he has to watch it all come to nothing. He even starts to break down in tears as it hits him just how insignificant he is against this beast.

Vegeta was a compelling character from the beginning, but this was the first time viewers grew to genuinely sympathise with the prince of all Saiyans.
