10 Epic Cartoon Themes From Your Childhood That You've Probably Forgotten

8. Thirteen Ghosts of Scooby-Doo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MRV5raXCDkA I think that throughout writing this list a bit of a trend has appeared. With the subject being 'Forgotten' theme songs, there are at least two examples of a variation on a classic show, that might have been received a little less fondly than the original. And it seems to be something of a rule that these variations have Epic theme tunes. What puts this one on the list is that it's genuinely spooky. I think perhaps because the show dispenses with any hint of Scooby Doo's central premise (that of mystery solving), and here the ghosts are not only real, but they're thirteen of the most terrible demons in existence. Does it work as a Scooby-Doo cartoon? Probably not, but that's not what this list is about. It's really the beginning that creates this spooky vibe to the piece, with Vincent Price providing the voice of Vincent Van Ghoul in an opening set-up monologue. Price sounds utterly terrifying in a sort of old man who 'knows something' way. And that chest that the Ghosts escape from looks absolutely terrifying. This is a really effective mood setting piece.
