10 Epic Cartoon Themes From Your Childhood That You've Probably Forgotten

7. Samurai Jack

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e51hgWIsY4M What's interesting about Samurai Jack is that it's in two parts. Instead of writing a song to describe the premise of the show, we get the villain Aku describing the events that happened prior to the show, culminating in him telling us that he sent Jack to the future where he (Aku) rules all. It's a nice little sequence, despite the fact that it could be considered to be taking something of a short cut. After this we move onto a more hip-hop inspired theme song, that (as far as I can tell) just serves the purpose being a cool jingle to introduce the show. This is by no means a bad thing, it works well and is fitting with the show. The thing about this one is that despite what I may have implied are faults with the theme, they work really well together. The opening is very much an example of an 'Older' type of storytelling, and this reflects the time that Jack lived in before Aku sent him to the future. The Hip-Hop theme then reflected the more advanced futuristic world that Jack found himself in. The theme is a good example of how breaking the rules (if there really are any, and it's not something I've made up for the purposes of this article) can be a good thing.

He'll probably get a job he doesn't like to get him through the next year or so, but his true passion lies here, in writing. He doesn't use Twitter often, but you never know, you could be responsible for getting him hooked @TheflamingRyan
