10 Epic Lessons Derren Brown Taught Us About Life

2. The Importance Of Believing In Yourself

Who could forget Russian Roulette? Derren Brown sparked international uproar when he played the game live on television, selecting one volunteer from 12,000 to load the revolver. Jersey police (where the show was filmed) claimed that he had used blank bullets. This was denied by Brown, who continued to explain that, even if they were blank, their repercussions would still have been deadly. In an interview with the Guardian, he admitted he could have killed himself. When asked what would have happened if the screen had ended up splattered with his brains, Derren replied: "I wouldn't have done it unless I was 100% sure." What We Learnt... If you're 100% confident about yourself, no other opinion matters. That's not to say you're going to have a face intact if you start playing Russian Roulette. During his Infamous show, Derren triumphantly announces that he was known as "Dickbrain" by school bullies. This is all after he has wowed the crowd with his staggering ability to memorise entire books, names and numbers: a gigantic middle finger to ignoramuses worldwide.
