Mad Men proved that they could lovingly recreate the advertising industry of the 1960s - with Halt And Catch Fire they've proved themselves equally adept at evoking Texas in the early 80s. Set during the personal computer explosion in the Silicon Prairie, Halt And Catch Fire centres around a fictional company eager to outsmart the guys at IBM and lead the pack in high quality, compact and affordable computing technology. Lee Pace, Scoot McNairy and Mackenzie Davis are perfect in the lead roles, Pace's serpentine marketing strategist bouncing effortlessly off McNairy's uber-geek and Davis's hot-headed yet naturally gifted coder. Season 2 recently wrapped up, but since it has underperformed in the area which counts for the most - ratings - the chances of a third season aren't looking too great. If it ends on this note it'll be a real shame - loved by both critics and fans, it deserves more air time to expand and breathe.
