Each season covers a unique murder, with each episode taking place over a period of twenty-four hours. Detective Inspector Sarah Lund (played by Sofie Gråbøl) takes on the central role, her investigations forming the backbone for each mystery. The Killing is broader than some police procedurals in the sense that it gives plenty of breathing space for wider aspects of the narrative, with the effects on the family of the victims and the wider political ramifications of each murder fleshing out the plot. If you have a problem with subtitles then you can always check out the US remake instead, although it suffers from a lack of consistency in quality, deteriorating with the passing of each season.
