Stranger Things had solid pre-release hype, but it exploded afterwards to become a true global phenomenon, something that last year's Season 2 only expanded upon.

Taking cues from Steven Spielberg, Stephen King, and John Carpenter among many others (Season 2 has heavy Gremlins and The Goonies vibes), the 80s-set series is a winning blend of nostalgia, warmth, scares, mystery, and just astonishingly wonderful kids.

It has charm in spades, is completely captivating with superb performances from children and adults alike, and when the school friends are sharing the screen together - especially in moments like the Snow Ball - there's a pure magic to the show that few others can come close to matching.
