It's officially Pride Month 2020, and that means it's time to celebrate some of the very best same-sex couples in popular media today.

Over the years, television has slowly changed with the times, introducing more and more gay characters into the TV landscape. In recent times, the format has made even greater strides in terms of representation, developing their gay and lesbian characters so that they are no longer portrayed as the one-dimensional one-line-spewing stereotypes of yesteryear.

Now, they are portrayed like real people, living real lives and enjoying real relationships - and given that some aspects of television are supposed to represent real life, it's long overdue.

Love is love, and now, all types of love are on TV. From superhero shows to long-running soaps, same-sex couples are being welcomed with open arms by all genres. With all of that in mind, let's take a look at some of the best same-sex couples to grace TV screens throughout the world within the last year - all of which are essential for celebrating Pride Month.

10. Kate And Sophie - Batwoman

Sometimes the best relationships are the ones with the most history behind them, and that couldn't be truer for Kate Kane and Sophie Moore on The CW's Batwoman.

The latest Arrowverse series made history by becoming the first ever superhero tale headlined by a lesbian superhero and it wasn't afraid to shy away from its titular character's personal life.

Lovers in their young adult lives forced apart by military school due to their affection for one another, they eventually found themselves back in each other's circles years later when Kate returned to Gotham. And even though Sophie wasn't able to be herself back then, Kate's return - and the subsequent arrival of Batwoman - ended up influencing her to bravely come out.

With Sophie finally living her truth and her clear attraction to Batwoman, things were really shaping up well for the history-making show. Yes, it's a darn shame that the pair's story won't be able to continue going forward (due to Ruby Rose's departure and the arrival of a second Batwoman), but Kate's return literally changed her former girlfriend's life for the better - and that, more than anything, is a sign of how strong their bond was.
