2. Tara And Willow - Buffy The Vampire Slayer

Willow Rosenberg was one of Buffy The Vampire Slayer's most popular characters and, during her time on the show, she was romantically linked with Xander, Oz and even a computer demon. However, her most important relationship didn't come until much later into the series, when she met the shy and slightly reclusive Tara Maclay in college during the fourth season.

Bonding over their shared love of witchcraft, they soon began to realise that they weren't all that different and, as they continued grow closer, Willow began to question her own relationship with Oz - ultimately realising that she had fallen for Tara.

Cute can't even begin to describe Willow and Tara's relationship, because they simply never failed to relay how madly in love they were. But perhaps the most endearing part of it all was they learned so much from each other, with Tara's presence in her life obviously allowing Willow to realise things about herself that she wasn't fully aware of, just as she was able to help Tara grow into a more confident person.

What made this pairing all the more ground-breaking was that, like others on this list, their relationship developed and progressed on a show that was primarily aimed at teens and young adults but it did so at a time when lesbian relationships (or any same-sex pairings for that matter) just weren't common on TV. Needless to say, the fact that they actually became the show's core couple at one-point illustrated that their love was every bit as valid as that of any heterosexual pairing.
