10 Essential TV Gay Couples For LGBT+ Pride Month

3. Brian And Justin - Queer As Folk

Based on the British series of the same name, Queer As Folk centred around the lives and loves of a group of gay men and women who lived in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. However, while there were plenty of popular couplings over the course of the show's five seasons, it was protagonists Brian Kinney and Justin Taylor who undoubtedly served up the best romance.

Mirroring their British counterparts, Brian and Justin couldn't have been more different from one another but, after coming into each other's orbit, neither man was able to live without the other - even if they tried remarkably hard to do so.

Justin's pursuit of Brian made for great viewing during the earlier seasons of the show, but it was the latter's inability to shake his feelings for his admirer that made their storyline all the more compelling.

Being the young, free and single type, Brian had no interest in pursuing a serious romance, but, as he would eventually find out, Justin's schoolboy charms were just too hard for him to resist. The fact that they were polar opposites added a little extra spice to the story, because it created a unique dynamic between the two characters - one that ultimately made fans root for them to stay together.

The first major relationship in the first American series to primarily focus on gay characters, Brian and Justin's relationship was nothing short of revolutionary and, without a doubt, way ahead of its time.
