10 Exact Moments The Simpsons Stopped Trying
9. Large Marge
Even in the world of animation, TV shows aren't above exploiting sex appeal in favour of well written, well thought out stories. The Simpsons have certainly been guilty of this several times, including the Spring Break party goers in Florida, but never more so than in Large Marge.
The season 14 episode saw Homer's wife mistakenly get breast implants, and instantly she received more attention from just about everyone in town, even going so far as becoming a model on the convention circuit. As it turns out, Homer and the rest of the Springfield population valued Marge a hell of a lot more after she was given large breasts.
The pay off of the entire episode is that Marge is able to save the day by flashing her chest to the police to distract them from shooting an elephant. It's not exactly a positive message to show that if you're unhappy with your body, you should change it and everything will be better. This certainly wasn't worth the mindless sex appeal through which the story was told.
Never mind the fact that Bart's old elephant friend just so happened to be on hand to help out Krusty with absolutely no explanation. Lazy.
