7. Elementary
Elementary, or the other Sherlock Holmes show, surprised me quite a bit last year. I was initially skeptical of it since there was another, and presumably better, show based on the great detective already on the air and thought it would be a lesser copy of Sherlock. Elementary proved me wrong within a few episodes though thanks to the writing and acting by Johnny Lee Miller. His take on Sherlock is a little more erratic than the latest portrayals audiences are used to, but this also means audiences get something different than what is on film or BBC now. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WO_TsKutuJ4 Where Elementary also differs is in its interpretations of many of the supporting characters. They all add something new to the history of Sherlock Holmes which feels quite refreshing and the most notable of all is, of course, Joan Watson. Shown here as an out of practice female doctor, Lucy Liu's Joan Watson has developed quite the knack for deduction of her own, becoming a more than adequate partner for Holmes. Currently the writers have said there will never be a romance between these two and I hope that really is true as a romance will most likely diminish the partnership into a generic television romance.
