6. Quagmire's Dad (S8E18)
No one is ever safe from being the subject of Family Guy's satirical nature. However, in a lot of cases, particularly as the show has gone on and relied more on offending and shocking its audience than actually making them laugh, this goes far beyond a good-natured jab.
In season eight, Quagmire's dad was introduced, and to everyone's surprise he was nothing like his sex-crazed deviant son. It was soon revealed that Lt. Dan Quagmire was a woman trapped inside a man's body and had come to Quahog for a gender reassignment surgery.
This story gave Family Guy the platform to take its first transgender character and mock, humiliate, and degrade them. "Jokes" about Quagmire not being able to accept who his father really is, Brian vomiting when he found out the truth about Ida, and Lois throwing out the food she brought for dinner just weren't funny.
Worse than missing the mark in terms of humour, these jabs taken at the trans community were incredibly disrespectful, toxic, and wildly offensive. Family Guy could have made a real impact when it introduced a transgender character back in 2010, but instead Ida was used simply as a means for a few cheap and tasteless jokes.
