The Cylons, despite holding an extremely obvious hatred for Humanity, seemed to base most of their ship designs on Human ships. This includes the imposing Cylon Basestar, their own version of the Battlestar class ship design.

The reimagined Basestar looks obviously different from its 1970s' origins and boasts massive upgrades that make the Basestar not only more powerful than a Battlestar but faster too.

This fact alone gives the Basestar a major advantage over the entirely mechanical human Battlestar, which can be irreparably damaged in battle with no hope of repair if the Cylons get lucky, and the crew sadly needs about 18 years to get new crewmembers if any die in combat.

The real benefit of the Basestar is that it has a much more advanced FTL drive than any large ship in the human fleet, able to jump twice as far and faster than even the Pegasus.
