10 Fixes That Would Improve The Big Bang Theory

9. Let Howard Grow Up

It€™s about time Howard got a personality and stuck to it. The man who fought to win Bernadette€™s heart and overcame all manner of challenges, both physical and mental, to get into space and who always had that spark of confidence is also the same man who is put down and humiliated by his wife on a regular basis and has swapped an overbearing mother for an overbearing wife. The character has both changed and remained stuck in the past and it€™s difficult to get a handle on who and what he is. Is he the smart, confident astronaut and engineer? Is he the mummy€™s boy who can€™t stand up for himself? Some of this is down to the way Bernadette is being portrayed as a teeny tiny ogre who even her bosses are scared of, but the emasculation of male characters by women is a motif of the show that should be chucked out. Howard was once the funniest character and his laughable failed attempts to woo Penny or any other woman were a staple of the show. But now that he€™s married he should grow up, be an adult and show the younger viewers what a healthy, equal relationship looks like. Let's see him get that PhD and maybe a healthy pay-rise.

I.T. Consultant, technophile and Doctor Who fan. I like to talk about tech, take films apart and make excuses for Doctor Who's continuity errors. No other show has the power to make me feel like a big kid.
