7. "Under Strengths, You've Put Accounts..." (The Office)
Onto the golden stuff, and where it all began. Due to Gervais and Merchants unwavering ability to stick to their guns, they never felt the pressure to please the masses regardless of the size of the project. This allowed them to take what would otherwise have been seen as risks in the eyes of lesser shows or comedians and do them justice. The character of Keith and his personal review' scene is such an example of this. With the essence of comedy essentially being juxtaposition, taking the overblown and often rambling David Brent and pitting him against the stoic Keith who would rather sit by and nonchalantly stare into space, provided the ideal scene to sit back and revel in the fantastically awkward moments to come. Many of us have felt the innocuous sentiment echoed throughout any progress report or work review, mainly stemming from the what are your strengths and weaknesses categories. The subsequent exchange as a charisma-demanding Brent reads back Keiths answers is another flawless example of capturing that moment on screen. Brent: Under strengths, youve just put accounts. Thats your job though, thats just... Keith: ...yup Brent: I was looking for skills within your job. Is there anything else you could have put there? Keith: (stares blankly) Brent: Okay. Erm...under weaknesses..... youve put eczema Brilliant. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IkYUDQCYGHA
