5. Neil Marshall

Martin wouldn't be the first member of the production team to play a part in Westeros, with a very, very quick glimpse of director Neil Marshall ready to launch a fire arrow under Jon Snow's command on The Wall. John Bradley, who plays Sam Tarley, explained that Marshall is a keen archer away from the set, and so was immortalised in the show for a few short seconds. Marshall was called up at short notice to direct one of the show's greatest ever episodes, Blackwater, as well as the equally epic Watchers On The Wall in which he featured. His previous work includes the horror film, The Descent.
